Within a stones throw of our accommodations on Valentia, we have
some of the finest sites and attractions in all of Ireland. Valentia
itself is a unique, accessible, bridge linked Atlantic ocean island.
It's unspoiled location makes it ideal for activity holiday pursuits,
or relaxing in total tranquility in front of open fires.
The house is set in the heart of the village of Knightstown.
It is centrally situated for touring the Ring of Kerry
the most scenically beautiful drive in Western Europe. Valentia
is convenient to world championship
golf
courses, subtropical
gardens, horseback riding, sea angling, swimming, adventure
sports and deep
sea diving. It is ideally located for bird watching,
painting, photography, cycling and hill
walking (The Kerry Way).
It has taken 5,000 years to prepare archeological Valentia for
you. Among items of interest are wedge tombs, standing stones, ogham
stones, holy wells, castles and ring forts, as well as the infamous
tetrapod tracks.
Within a boat ride from Knightstown stands the world's finest example
of early Christian monastic architecture,
The Skellig Islands. In the form of 1,400 year
old stone built cells, oratories, terraces and stairways, on the
mystic
Skellig Micheal. Its " noisy sister" island , Little
Skellig, is a bird sanctuary of world renown, and is the home to
20,000 pairs of gannets. Nearby, outside Caherciveen, lies
Ballycarbery Castle
(pictured above) and two ancient
stone forts, Leacanabuile and Cahergheall.
The Knightstown village pubs and
restaurants
invite visitors to
meet the local people. The problem is not getting there, it's getting
away!
